Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Miami MILLER School of Medicine. The department consists of a group of physicians, nurses, scientists, and staff associates who are dedicated to providing compassionate state of the art medical care and to advancing medical knowledge.  We specialize in the management of patients with surgically treatable neurological diseases.

The scope of practice includes the care of patients with disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nerves including cerebrovascular disease, intracranial and spinal tumors, disorders of the spinal cord and vertebral column, pediatric neurosurgical problems, movement disorders, medically intractable seizure disorders, and head and spinal injuries. Comprehensive evaluation of our patients is made possible by the team of neurosurgeons, who offer subspecialty expertise in these areas. Our physicians include neurosurgeons, neurologists, intensivists, and pain rehabilitation specialists who provide a comprehensive approach to the evaluation and management of patients. Patients who come to the department usually have difficult problems, and our dedicated physicians, nurses, nurse-practitioners, and staff, strive to make each patient's experience as pleasant as possible.

The department is dedicated to advancing the field of neurosurgery through research programs and the training of neurosurgeons. Educational activities of the department include instruction of medical students, training of residents and fellows in neurosurgery, and continuing education of practicing neurosurgeons.

The neuroscience community at our University represents every major area of basic and clinical investigation. The dedicated neuroscience intensive care unit is one of the largest in the world and provides state-of-the-art monitoring and care. Ongoing research at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and many other research efforts continue to provide innovative and experimental training options for clinicians and offers patients with treatment options as they become available.

We welcome your interest in the department, and hope to assist you with your treatment or educational needs.

Sincerely,
