Neuro-Intensive Care

Dr. Stephen E. Olvey along with Dr. Howard Landy and Dr. Enrique Ginsberg provide state-of-the art neuro-critical care within the twenty-four bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital. With backgrounds in internal medicine, neurosurgery, and general surgery, the three critical care physicians work in concert with the neurosurgical and neruological teams in caring for their critically ill patients.  Brain tissue monitoring, induced hypothermia, and sedation and pain management are in common usage in caring for these very sick patients.  Jackson's Neuroscience Intensive Care unit is the largest of its kind in the state of Florida and is actively involved in ongoing, prospective research projects in the areas of traumatic brain injury, spinal chord injury, and neurovascular disease.  The multi-national and multi-lingual nursing staff is considered among the best in the United States. The neuro-critical care program is also served by a full-time clinical pharmacologist, nutritionist, respiratory therapist, and social service representative. All modalities of critical care medicine are available and in common usage within the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit.
