Dr. David Sandberg graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Sandberg graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he developed a research interest in novel treatment methods for brain tumors. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, including training in general neurosurgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital and specialized training in neurosurgical oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. As a resident, he was awarded the Resident Traveling Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and he completed this fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Sandberg received the Kenneth Shulman award for the most outstanding research paper presented at the AANS/CNS Pediatric Section Meeting and the Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council Distinguished Housestaff Award. He completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, which is affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.

Dr. Sandberg is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery (FIENS), and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  Bilingual in both English and Spanish, Dr. Sandberg has also lectured and volunteered in teaching the latest neurosurgical techniques to neurosurgeons in Central and South America. Dr. Sandberg has lectured and published numerous articles on various topics in pediatric neurosurgery. His special interests include pediatric brain tumors, endoscopic neurosurgery, and congenital spinal anomalies. His research interests focus on novel means of delivering therapeutic agents for the treatment of childhood brain tumors.
